Tomorrow

2020

Seven works, reminiscent of travel posters with banner headlines, proclaim TOMORROW in dominating white text that has not quite registered. Each ‘countdown’ addresses a sense of how unbridled economic growth based on the exploitation of human and environmental resources has consequences in degradation, destruction, disaster, death and ultimately extinction. Countdown to Midnight is a series of bleak expressionistic water colour and gouache paintings. The implied commercial design nature of their presentation evokes grim promotions for dubious destinations. The ‘queasy’ pastels of a pre-teen bedroom clash, assaulting their audience with an apocalyptic vision of an unthinkable future that is quite simply a legacy of its past. - David Broker, Director, Canberra Contemporary Art Space.
